Wiley and the Hairy Man.

This is for a production called Wiley and the Hairy Man. I have currently logged more than 40 hours on this project. My part has been to design and build "The Hairy Man." The director of the play wanted him to be a nightmarish collection of swamp bits. These bits are supposed to combine to form a 8 foot tall tree puppet controlled by 5 puppeteers. The puppet is simple enough, two stumps for legs, two branches for arms, and an ivy covered stump for a head. As you can see in some of the pictures the limbs (branches and stumps) have rods attached so that the puppeteers dressed in all black can controll it Bunraku style.

  1. All I can say is WOW. It looks amazing. There is a way for the puppeteer to see through that mask right?

  2. That is awesome. And all of your storytelling puppets put our puppets to shame. Except the ones we bought from you.

  3. What a great project. Don't you just love it when someone asks you to make something outrageous, and then you actually do it. It is such a rush.
