Sophos Puppets Part One

I mentioned previously that I'd been working on some pretty awesome puppet projects. Well, a few months ago, I built eleven puppets for an I.T. company called Sophos. It was fun and challenging due to the short timeline and the special needs of each puppet. Because it was such a quick turnaround, I didn't take very many photos, but I'll share what I have:  patterning, hands with pockets for removable rods, foam mockups, hair, and skinning. Photos of the finished puppets and their designs to come!

Just Another Day in IT

It's been a couple of months since my last post, but I can now break my vow of silence. I've been involved in some pretty awesome puppet-building opportunities as of late and I plan on dedicating some blog-space to these projects. In the meantime, here's the unveiling of my most recent work:

Puppets in Hyrule

More often than not when I’m building puppets for the fun of it I often just wing it. No designing, no planning, no nothin’. Sometimes it turns into a total mess (I have more than one unfinished puppet head in a box labeled “puppet graveyard”), and sometimes it turns into an unexpected success. This little guy – who looks very much like he just walked out of the kingdom of Hyrule – I think came out a success.

Bruce Vilanch Puppet

 Sorry about the less than premo pictures. I realized that I forgot to take pictures right before he was shipped. Another thing I realized is that it bares a certain likeness to Bruce Vilanch mixed with a leprechaun.

These were made for a Renaissance festival put on this last weekend.

Little Boy Puppet

I don't perform as much as I'd like, however this year I will be performing at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. This puppet is one of the collection of puppets I am building for the event. I don't have a name for him yet beside kid in his jam-jams.

Puppet Concepts

I've decided to post more of my puppet concept work. I haven't done it too much in the past, because only a fraction of the drawings I make turn into puppets. So here are a few hopeful puppets.

Fisherman

I made "fisherman" over the Christmas break. I don't know why I haven't posted him. He still has a few things to work out like the fact he doesn't have a left arm. Working on it.
